Jess Heinrich - Social Media Project - Modern Family Satire

A) Modern Family is a faux-documentary style, comical television show.

B) Modern family intertwines the chronicles of three exceptionally diverse families, satirically mocking the ideal ‘traditional family’ society has created throughout history. This show points out the evolving definition of “family” and at the same time uses satire through stereotypes to show cultural anxiety about the traditional families and rolls we are expected to take, as well as the imperfections every family typically has.

C) Cameron and Mitchell are a gay couple who have just recently adopted a baby from the Vietnam. Their constant tension provides a subtle reminder that gay marriage is a controversial issue in our society.

Gloria represents a young Latina women who represents how society portrays Latina, and other foreign women as sexual symbols. Gloria is a thick-accented, compassionate, naïve young women married to a wealthy, older man. Which points out social critique on women who marry older men for their money.

D) Satire is used throughout the T.V series using stereotypes, humor, and exaggeration.

E)The target audience varies throughout all ages. It was typically made for modern day families to relate to, and joke about, but when the pilot was released in 2009, it because one of the biggest shows across the country. Many people, of all ages, enjoy this show because almost anyone can relate in one way or another.

F) This is an effective way because it gives people the ability to relate it to their own lives, thus making it more meaningful and memorable.
